My Fashion Journey

Throughout my teenage years I have always loved fashion, however, up until the end of 2013 I felt immense pressure from my peers and the media on what I should wear. I felt like I had to wear what everyone else was wearing in order to fit in, I had no individuality at all. Although I had grown up listening to Evanescence and always loved the lead singer, Amy Lee's style, I never felt like I would fit in with my peers if I were to dress similarly to her. It wasn't until I became friends with the group of girls I am best friends with today who encouraged me to dress how I pleased and the fashion I was confronted with on tumblr, that I decided to start embracing the style I have always loved. Being able to wear what I want without caring what people think of me is honestly one of the best feelings in the world. I definitely believe that the clothes we wear represent us as a person one way or another, now that I have started dressing how I want, I feel like I have grown as a person. If I had to describe my fashion style, I would say it's a combination of styles such as gothic, grunge and edgy with feminine twist.

A few of my fashion idols include:

#1 - Amy Lee

I love how she designs her own outfits and wears what she wants, it's so brave and inspiring. One of my favourite quotes from Amy Lee is "I don't want to ever be a quote-unquote rock star. I want to just be me."

#2 - Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner has grown up in a famous family, she would be under huge pressure to look a certain way, yet she dresses however she likes which is inspirational because I would love to have the confidence to be able to do that! I also love that she has the ability to wear a great amount of black and still pull it off in a fashionable, edgy way.

#3 - Ashley Benson

Ashley Benson can pull off wearing full black so well. The first outfit on the left still has that feminine vibe by the skinny leg jeans and heeled boots. The second outfit on the right is kept classy but casual by the flat boots and oversized knit jumper. Her style is simply amazing! #goals

I am super excited to start university next year because being able to wear casual clothing in my style will hopefully boost my self-esteem, confidence and shape my identity in the next chapter of my life.
